The Workplace Health And Safety Advice Centre, or the WHASAC as we usually abbreviate it to, has been established to provide FREE help, advice and support on all things to do with work related health and safety matters. Free in this case does mean free, not initially free and then there is a cost but free. We do not charge for our help, advice and support, there are no hidden costs.

Our free work related health and safety help, advice and support is available to virtually anyone. It is available to employers, to small businesses, the self employed, to employees and to people between jobs. It is particularly available to organisations within the Voluntary sector and to Charities and Community groups.

We work with our 'clients', for want of a better word, to first of all look at and then establish what they initially need to do to meet their fundamental and legal health and safety at work requirements. We agree with them and set out together with a structured approach to devise and implement a realistic timetable based on a plan of work.

We then support the implementation of the agreed plan but the one thing we don’t do is to simply do the work for our clients. That would be counter productive because one of our aims and objectives is to help them to develop competent persons to deal with health and safety at work in a self sufficient manner within the relevant workplace. In other words, we will help our clients as much as we can, but our aim and objective is to get them to achieve competency to such a standard that they don’t need us, because they can do it for themselves.

Our approach to the practical management of work related hazards and risk is that the employer or organisation (in the broad sense) is best placed to identify and deal with the risks that are present within their workplace or arise from the activities that they undertake. They have the local knowledge and experience concerning the people that they employ or use and we see our role as helping them to develop their skills and enhance their knowledge.

In addition to providing the free help, advice and support, we also provide a wide range of health and safety training. There is a fee for the training that we provide because we ourselves have to pay for tutors, certificates, refreshments and food etc. The information you need concerning our training provision can be found elsewhere but rest assured, when we say that we provide quality training at an affordable price, then we really do!

So there’s our starting point. We will help you as much as we can to help you to get things done and get things right but we won’t do it for you – that’s your role…..and the way forward is easy – contact us if you need us.

Any problems, queries, if you are looking for information and help then call us on 01902 609674 or email us on whasac@btconnect.com.

We are a community resource that operates on a nationwide basis to improve health and safety at work – its as simple as that…..
